Introduction: Ileus is a temporary lack of intestine movement that can lead to pain, nausea, bloating and other symptoms. Without treatment, this complication can be considered a threatening factor for the person. The purpose of this case report study was to examine a 40-year-old woman who was admitted to Sarem Superspeciality Hospital in Tehran due to abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and diagnosed with ileus.
Case report: A 40-year-old woman from Neka in Mazandaran province was admitted to Sarem subspecialty hospital due to abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting and diagnosed with ileus in 2022. Preoperative diagnosis of intestinal obstruction was considered. The type of surgery of this patient was laparotomy. The abdomen was opened with a midline incision. The intestines were explored and a clear obstruction was reported in the last 60 cm of the ileum. The obstruction contained a stone-like mass inside the intestine, which was removed by a transverse incision on the intestinal wall, and the intestinal wall was repaired in two layers. After washing the abdomen and ensuring the hemostasis and correctness of counting, the layers of the abdomen were repaired with lung gas and the patient was transferred to recovery.
Conclusion: Clinical suspicion of obstruction is necessary for rapid diagnosis and aggressive intervention to minimize morbidity and mortality from this complication. In this study, after washing the abdomen and ensuring homeostasis and counting accuracy, the patient was taken to recovery.
