اندومتریوز یک بیماری التهابی مزمن است که در آن بافت شبه آندومتر در خارج از رحم ایجاد می‌شود. مطالعه حاضر یک مرور سیستماتیک جهت طبقه‌بندی انواع اندومتریوز است. در این مطالعه 10 طبقه‌بندی اندومتریوز مورد بررسی قرار گرفتند. نتایج ما نشان داد که با وجود این که مدت زمان قابل توجهی از شناسایی اندومتریوز می‌گذرد، هنوز طبقه‌بندی جامع و یکپارچه‌ای برای آن پیشنهاد نشده است. ما بر این باوریم که با توجه به یافته‌های مربوط به بیان ژن و دلایلی که ذکر شد، در آینده‌ای نه چندان دور بیش از آن که پنج اختلالSuperficial Peritoneal Endometriosis ،Cystic Ovarian Endometriosis (Endometrioma)، Deep Endometriosis، Extra-Pelvic Endometriosis و Adenomyosis پنج شکل یک بیماری باشند، به عنوان پنج بیماری جداگانه مشابه هم در نظر گرفته شوند.
