Introduction: The sole of the foot gives us the ability to maintain the balance of the body to perform daily activities and sports exercises in a standing position. Common injuries and disorders associated with flat feet include Achilles tendonitis, iliotibial band syndrome, knee pain, and back pain. Therefore, the aim was to investigate the effect of body weight and type of foot covering on the problem of flat soles of female students in the age range of 12 to 15 years in Nain city of Isfahan.
Materials and methods: The current research was a semi-experimental type of research. For this purpose, 346 female students with an average age of 13.01±0.92 years and an average weight of 43.19±1.18 kg were screened using the mirror box method (Foot Print by Podoscop), which 47 13.6 percent of them were suffering from flat feet with different severity. The variables measured and examined in this research were: body weight and type of shoes in terms of toes and heels. An Omron digital scale was used to measure the body weight of the students. In order to obtain information about the type of foot covering of the students, a questionnaire was prepared and given to the statistical sample of the research, which was collected by the students after completion. After collecting the desired information, descriptive statistics were used to classify the data in appropriate operating parameters and inferential statistics (chi-square test) were used to test the hypotheses.
Results: The findings showed that there was a significant difference between body weight and flat feet with 95% confidence (P<0.05). There was a significant difference between the type of shoes in terms of toes, heels and flat feet at the 95% confidence level (P<0.05).
Conclusion: The findings of the research on the importance of constant attention by teachers and parents on the control of students' body weight were obtained. Also, the special attention of parents emphasizes the standard of shoes in terms of toes and heels when buying shoes.
